Young Mom Callers Impress Judges at State Fair Heritage Competition

DES MOINES, IA (08/22/2011)(readMedia)-- More than 40 young competitors impressed judges with their vocal talents in the Mom Calling competition judged Friday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

In the 5 to 9 age division, Gracie Anderson, 7, of Webster City placed first. Eight-year-old Emma Worthem of Grand Rapids, Mich., placed second, and third place was awarded to Maddi Voss, 8, of Chariton.

In the 10 to 15 age division, Ashland Christensen, 11, of Windsor Heights took first place. Second place was a tie between Sydney Uhlman, 10, of Des Moines and Kaylyn Kaster, 14, of Knoxville. Katie Greenfield, 11, of Webster City placed third.

The contest was part of "Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions" in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. A first prize of $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.
