MILWAUKEE, WI (07/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Eilish Tucker, daughter of Craig and Elizabeth Tucker, was honored with the 2012 Anthropology Outstanding Student Award from Marquette University's Department of Social and Cultural Sciences. Tucker graduated in May with a bachelor of arts in psychology with a second major in anthropology.
The award recognizes one graduating senior in the anthropology major who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and service, and engagement and dedication to the field of anthropology. The honoree also shows a keen understanding of anthropology's broad applications to the world and commitment to human diversity. The student is recognized with an award luncheon, a certificate and a 1-year journal subscription.
This award is competitive and is bestowed upon the one graduating senior who has maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and a 3.5 grade point average in their major classes. The student also demonstrates leadership qualities, contributes significant time and effort to service of the university and community, and possesses a commitment to and appreciation for diversity.
According to Sameena Mulla, assistant professor of social and cultural sciences, Tucker stood out as an intellectually bright and curious student who applied her anthropological knowledge to health care issues. Tucker has been admitted to the Ph. D. program in anthropology at Case Western Reserve, where she will pursue her passion: medical anthropology.
