Zeldin Affirms ‘Independent Bulldog’ Spirit

Opponent Toes Party Line More Than All But One

MASTIC, NY (05/08/2008)(readMedia)-- After reviewing a database highlighting his opponent's lack of independence, the endorsed Republican candidate for Long Island's First Congressional District today reassured voters that change is on the way.

Army veteran and Shirley resident Lee Zeldin, running to represent the Eastern Long Island district, reiterated his campaign-long promise to be an independent bulldog for Long Island's homeowners, families and hardworking residents when he arrives on Capitol Hill.

"The challenges of the First C.D. are unique. There's no place like Eastern Long Island; therefore, blindly following the whims of a politician from the other side of America can't possibly cover our needs adequately," said Zeldin. "And where my opponent fails to lead in so many areas, I find it telling that the one area he rises to the forefront only shows that he excels at following."

Zeldin's comments come on the heels of a Washington Post database, updated last week, that casts his opponent, Congressman Tim Bishop, as the second least independent member of the combined 535 members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Bishop had voted with his party's liberal agenda with stunning predictability, following party mandate 98.8% of the time, according to the Washington Post Web site

Throughout his campaign, Zeldin has asserted himself as a fiercely independent candidate, beholden only to the interests of the hardworking men and women of the First Congressional District.

While critical of the current Democratic-controlled Congress for concerns to include their inefficiency and limitless taxing and spending, Zeldin has long lambasted the previous Republican-controlled Congress for issues ranging from irresponsible spending to ethics violations.

"A vote for Lee Zeldin is a vote for Eastern Long Island, and our unique needs," said Zeldin. "With me, you'll always get what you see; you'll never be misled. Together, we'll make important strides without pretense, and ensure that Long Island's bright future begins now!"

Zeldin served as an aide to State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle. The Shirley resident studied at the University at Albany, graduated from Albany Law School, and earned his commission through Army ROTC. He was a paratrooper, prosecutor and magistrate with the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps. In the summer of 2006, he was a JAG attorney deployed to Iraq. He is currently an attorney at Raiser & Kenniff on Long Island.
