Zeldin Defines D.C. Bishop in New Television Advertisement

PATCHOGUE, NY (08/04/2008)(readMedia)-- The Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District rolled out a new television advertisement today called "Real Long Island Values" and took the opportunity to announce his vision for 21st Century energy solutions.

Shirley resident Lee Zeldin, the GOP candidate for the Eastern Long Island district, released his second television advertisement, this one critical of his opponent's ultra-liberal voting record in Congress. Some of the issues highlighted include Tim Bishop's support for partial-birth abortions, historic tax increases, hiring halls for illegal aliens, and draining ammunition and life saving equipment for deployed troops. Additionally, despite rising gas prices, Bishop's adjournment vote last week allowed Congress to take a five week vacation without a vote on the American Energy Act, which Zeldin supports.

"Gas prices have nearly tripled since my opponent took office. Last week, Congress voted itself a five-week vacation in light of its nine percent approval rating and lack of any progress regarding our energy concerns," said Zeldin. "I'll bring the change necessary to fix our Congress and redefine our energy infrastructure."

Zeldin is critical of big oil corporations, but is also critical of his opponent's verbatim recitation of democratic talking points regarding 68 million acres of federally leased land. "Use it or lose it" is already the law of the land, only a fraction of the land can be used for drilling oil, and natural gas production there and demand is way up. Zeldin also notes that windfall profits taxes are a bad idea, because big oil corporations will pass the taxes down to consumers making gas prices even higher.

Unlike his opponent, Zeldin favors responsible deep sea oil exploration and on the coastal plain of Alaska in order to reduce our reliance on foreign oil and reduce our foreign trade deficit. Zeldin advocates for less red tape to boost the creation of refineries. As included in the American Energy Act, Zeldin also favors a transition to wind, solar and hydroelectric power.

The advertisement will run on News 12, Fox News and CNN for several weeks. It is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IDwoiqg_Yw.
