MASTIC, NY (07/21/2008)(readMedia)-- The Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District today released a Web-based commercial touting his fierce loyalty to the Eastern Long Island district and the independent-minded leadership demanded by the position.
"I'm proud of my independent, conservative values while at the same time remaining very aware that the era of one-size-fits-all party politics is a 20th Century relic," said Lee Zeldin, the GOP candidate for the First C.D. "These trying times call for leaders that think outside the box, and have the courage to stand up for their convictions, even if it means stirring things up."
Zeldin's comments come on the heels of his opponent's top-five ranking among a Washington Post database of partisan politicians. Tim Bishop votes with Nancy Pelosi 99% of the time according to the Congressional Quarterly. Speaker Pelosi is in charge of a Congress with a 9% approval rating.
"I've said from the beginning that Long Island's Future Begins Now," said Zeldin, reiterating his campaign theme. "I'm in this race to make an impact on my party's future, my community's future, and my nation's future. What we accomplish on Election Day 2008 has a bearing on Election Day 2009, 2010 and so on."
