ROCHESTER, NY (03/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The William H. Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies at Nazareth College proudly presents a talk by Virgilio P. Elizondo. Elizondo's lecture, World Church: Grace, Blessing, Challenge, is on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m. This lecture is free and open to the public and takes place in the Forum of the Otto Shults Community Center at Nazareth College, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14618. Elizondo will also present, If Jesus Had Been Born in San Antonio, on Friday, March 25, at 1:30 p.m. in the Golisano Academic Center on the ground floor, room 38 at Nazareth College. Son of Mexican immigrants and acclaimed as "the founder of U.S. Latino theology, Elizondo grounded his theological work as a Catholic priest and pastor – a ministry responsive both to Gospel and contemporary issues. He is a professor of pastoral and Hispanic theology at the University of Notre Dame. Elizondo is a visiting professor at universities, schools of theology, and seminaries in the United States, Italy, and Australia.

Elizondo's publications include: Charity (2009); A God of Incredible Surprises (2003); Galilean Journey: The Mexican-American Promise (rev. 2000); and Guadalupe: Mother of the New Creation (1997). Selections of his writings are collected in Virgilio Elizondo: Spiritual Writing (2010) and Beyond Borders: Writings of Virgilio Elizondo and Friends (2000).
