Winslow Township National Guard Officer Steven Ferrari Promoted to Brigadier General

LATHAM, NY (07/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Winslow Township resident Steven Ferrari, a veteran of the Iraq War, has been promoted to a Brigadier General (one-star) in the New York Army National Guard and named Deputy Commanding General of the 42nd Infantry Division.
The 50-year old National Guard officer, joined the New Jersey Army National Guard in 1981 and has served in a variety of positions to include Chief of Staff- Army in the New Jersey National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, Commander of the New Jersey National Guard's 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and Commander of the New Jersey National Guard's 3rd Battalion 112th Field Artillery.
He commanded the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Iraq in 2008-09 when the unit was responsible for security for American bases in the Baghdad area.
In civilian life, Ferrari works for General Dynamics Information Technology. He is a Program Analyst developing Battalion and Brigade level Staff training exercises for U.S Army Reserve units.
Ferrari is married to Tracy and has two sons, Steven and Nicholas, and two step-children Will and Malyssa.
The 42nd Infantry Division, headquartered in Troy, NY, is responsible for the training of 12,000 Army National Guard Soldiers in five states. The division is also responsible for a National Guard Homeland Response Team which would deploy in New York and New Jersey in the event of an emergency or terrorist attack.
In 2005 the 42nd Infantry Division was responsible for command of 23,000 Soldiers in north-central Iraq.
Ferrari was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in 1982 after graduating from Officer Candidate School. He served as an Active Duty, full-time, Guardsman from June 1986 to August 2011.
His military education includes the Army War College, the Joint Task Force Commanders Course, Command and General Staff Officer Course, the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, the Master Fitness Trainers Course, and the Security Assistance Management Training Officer Course at the Defense Institute of Security Assistance.
He holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Information Systems and a Masters degree in Strategic Studies.
Ferrari's awards include: the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, the New Jersey Ribbon of Honor, New Jersey Merit Award, New Jersey Desert Storm Support Ribbon, the New Jersey State Service Award, the New York Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the New Jersey Governor's Unit Award.
