2011 Women of Distinction Announced for the 26th Anniversary Event

CHATTANOOGA TN (03/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The 26th Annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 11:15 AM to 1:30 PM, at the Chattanooga Convention Center Ballroom.

The event, which benefits the American Lung Association in Tennessee, is a Chattanooga tradition which honors the annual Tennessee Woman of Distinction, plus ten of the Chattanooga area's most accomplished women who have distinguished themselves within their family, career, and community. All of them are long time volunteers in a wide range of activities as well.

2011 marks the first time four high school seniors from the Chattanooga area will be honored as Young Women of Distinction for outstanding achievement in leadership, academics and character.

The 2011 Women of Distinction are:

  • Dr. Deborah Elwell Arfken– UTC Coordinator of University Planning & Professor
  • Dr. Charlotte Boatwright- President & Founding member of Coalition Against Domestic & Community Violence of Greater Chattanooga
  • Sheila Boyington – President of Thinking Media
  • Amanda Buchanan– Dale Buchanan & Associates, Owner – Table Two Grill and Lounge & Fleetwood Development, Owner
  • Linda G. Harwell, –Retired - First TN Bank Marketing Director
  • Lynda M. Hood – Executive Director of the Chattanooga Bar Association
  • Deanne Irvine – UTC Adjunct Faculty Music Dept. and Cadek Conservatory of Music
  • Molly Sasse – Executive Director of Chattanooga Symphony & Opera
  • Susan Callaway Stein – Owner of SCS Designs and
  • Scottie Goodman Summerlin – Volunteer and former News Anchor

The Young Women of Distinction are:

  • Nisha C. Boyington- Girls Preparatory School
  • Anna Georgia Ioannidis- Silverdale Baptist Academy
  • Hannah Brooke Jumper- Baylor School and
  • Janelle Tonge- Brainerd High School

At this time Sponsors include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Chatter Magazine, WRCB-TV News Channel 3/ST Productions, Hamico, Carter Farms, Mustang Leadership Partners, First Tennessee, Luken Holdings, EPB and Olan Mills.

Channel 3 News anchor, Cindy Sexton, will emcee the event.

Individual tickets are $65 before April 12th-($70 after that) and payment must be made in advance to ensure a reservation; various levels of Sponsor tables are also available.

This annual event benefits the American Lung Association in Tennessee and its mission to prevent lung disease and promote lung health. Lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States today. In Tennessee alone, more than 814,000 children and adults are affected by lung disease such asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking, air pollution, and lung disease make breathing difficult for millions of Americans.

Monies raised from the Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon fund medical research, advocacy and education nationwide to ensure clean air and healthy lungs for all.
