NEW YORK, NY (03/03/2010)(readMedia)-- More than 36,000 New Yorkers enrolled in certain Medicare Advantage plans sold by American Progressive Life and Health Insurance Company are eligible to make changes in their health insurance under a special election period that runs through March 31, the New York State Insurance Department reported.
The special election period allows beneficiaries to change their Medicare Advantage plan, enroll in original Medicare, or change their Part D drug plan.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) authorized the special election period because of errors in plan information sent to enrollees of Medicare Advantage plans sold by American Progressive. The erroneous information was provided enrollees during the standard annual open enrollment period which ended Dec. 31.
The special open enrollment period affects 36,079 enrollees of American Progressive Life and Health Insurance Company PFFS (private fee-for-service) plans, most of which use the marketing name, Today's Options.
Enrollees can obtain additional information by contacting their health plan directly, or by contacting the Medicare program, 1-800-MEDICARE, or the New York Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) toll-free at 1-800-701-0501.
Senior citizens and other consumers with questions about insurance policies may obtain information by accessing the Insurance Department's website, www.ins.state.ny.us, or by contacting the Department's Consumer Services Bureau, 1-800-342-3736 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
