$4 Million Investment Prepares Marcy NanoCenter

ROME, NY (07/18/2007)(readMedia)-- A$4 million investment by New York State has further prepared Marcy NanoCenter (MNC) for immediate development by the nanoelectonics industry. This state grant will initiate engineering work on infrastructure improvements at the shovel ready site, reducing the time necessary to complete an operational facility. Following last year’s global site search, AMD CEO Hector Ruiz called the 300-acre upstate New York greenfield “a world class site.” The $4 million in state funding will begin site and infrastructure improvements, including water and sewer upgrades, to reduce the lead time necessary for a developer. Phase II funding of $14.5 million for road and other infrastructure improvements has been proposed.

“Marcy NanoCenter is ready for development as a result of the significant investment by New York State,” said Steven J.DiMeo, President of Mohawk Valley EDGE, the regional economic development agency that is leading the marketing efforts of the site. “Instead of completing off site improvements simultaneous to site development, our strategy is to conclude this work as soon as possible, thereby speeding up the development timeline.”

“As New York becomes a major hub of the nanoelectronics industry, we are committed to enhancing the strengths and resources that have made the Mohawk Valley a center of technological innovation,” said Assemblywoman RoAnn M.Destito (D-Rome).

Marcy NanoCenter is located on the campus of the State University of New York Institute of Technology. The proximity of the SUNYIT and Marcy NanoCenter campuses will link workplace with education, training, recreation, open space and other amenities important to the nanoelectronics industry and its employees.

The site is infrastructure-rich to meet the demands of the nanoelectronics industry including:

• Two independent sources of power are in place.National Grid,New York State’s largest utility, confirms MNC’s electrical reliability to be 99.9999%.;

• A municipal water system with excess capacity of over 6 million gallons per day;

• A municipal waste water treatment system with excess capacity of 3 million gallons per day;

• Natural gas lines proximal to the site;

• Syracuse International Airport is 45 minutes from MNC, while Albany International is 90 minutes from the site.

• All pre-permitting and studies required by the industry have been completed.
