HARRISBURG, PA (08/19/2011)(readMedia)-- The Board of Directors of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) announced this week their endorsement of the recommendations of Governor Tom Corbett's Transportation Funding Advisory Commission.
The report compiled by the Commission addresses the necessity of finding new and sustainable sources of transportation funding. The Commission also touched upon the need to improve efficiencies and modernization to better use public dollars and increase the mobility to all Pennsylvanians.
"This funding package is user-based," says Steven B. Bolt, ACEC/PA Board President. "Those who use the system and benefit from its attributes will be greatly served by these investments."
"At this time, there are 42 bridges that are closed to traffic in Pennsylvania, with an average detour of 8 miles," says ACEC/PA Executive Vice President Eric G. Madden. "This long-term funding is crucial to repairing our infrastructure, reducing delays and getting our goods to the marketplace."
The funding package includes a phased approach to generate over $2.5 billion in new revenue for transportation annually.
