BURLINGTON, VT (03/29/2012)(readMedia)-- Each spring, Champlain College Admissions hosts two Accepted Students Days. This year they fall on Saturday, March 31 and April 14.
Accepted Student Days are great opportunities to meet other accepted students as well as faculty, staff, current students and alumni and brings more than 1,000 people to campus each year. It is also a chance for prospective students and families to explore Burlington and see what it has to offer.
Spencer Cray, a first-year Graphic Design major, reflected on his Accepted Students Day experience last spring, "Although I only live 15 minutes away in Essex Junction, coming to Accepted Students Day at Champlain was incredibly important. I met some of my soon-to-be classmates from all over the country and we decided to register for a Summer Launch Program together."
"This year there was a record-breaking number of applicants for admission to the Class of 2016," said Admissions Counselor Bret Dewhurst. "The application pool reflects a diverse group of students with a wide variety of academic, professional, personal and social interests. Without doubt, these truly gifted and dynamic students from across the country will be a great addition to the College. We'll see the first effects of this when 275 accepted students visit campus Saturday."
Along with those students will come family and friends, bringing the weekend visitor count to more than 750 people coming from across the country. In addition to welcoming students from New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, Dewhurst says accepted students are coming from California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. The largest number of students is coming up from Massachusetts , followed by families from New York and Connecticut. Registration is still open for the April 14 Accepted Student Day. "I think every student who has been accepted to Champlain should try to come to an Accepted Student Day event because you get a sense of how the school suits you. You get the opportunity to meet and mingle with staff and faculty from your Division, meet classmates, get a tour, and finalize all the pesky details," said Cray.
Each of the four divisions - Business, Communications & Creative Media, Education & Human Studies and Information Technology & Sciences - will have their own agendas for the Accepted Students Day event. Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by time to meet with Financial Aid, tour residence halls, visit the book store, or have questions answered by student services. From 9 to 10:50 a.m. students and families will Explore Academic Connections with their divisions before breaking into sessions specific to their major.
Lunch will be served as students and parents Explore Champlain with activities including tours of campus and downtown Burlington, presentations by Champlain's Centers of Excellence, the Student Government Association, the Parents Program, and an Internships and Careers panel. There will also be a Vermont Food and Activities Fair in the Argosy Gymnasium with music provided by Champlain Professor Rob William's band Phineas Gage.
