ROME, NEW YORK (09/11/2025) (readMedia)-- New York Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Paul Bishop will be available to speak to members of the press about the New York National Air Guard Showcase planned for Sept. 13 at Griffiss International Airport on Friday, Sept. 12.
Bishop, who formerly commanded the Rome-based Eastern Air Defense Sector, will discuss the purpose for the show and the aircraft being highlighted.
Members of the media will have a chance to speak with Airmen and view the aircraft on site.

WHAT: A question-and-answer session about New York Air National Guard Showcase 2025. The Showcase will feature seven aircraft, including a B-52 Stratofortress, like those which once called Griffiss Air Force Base home.

New York Air National Guard Showcase 2025
The New York Air National Guard's Showcase 2025 is an opportunity to not only introduce New York Air National Guard and Air National Guard aircraft but also capabilities to area residents and to share what service means today, especially in science, engineering, and technology domains critical to our nation's defense.
The Showcase will also serve as a platform for local organizations and businesses to exhibit how they contribute to the region's innovative ecosystem and national defense mission. The event will feature engaging activities for students and families, along with plenty of opportunities to meet service members, innovators and educators making a difference.
One hundred New York National Guard Airmen and Soldiers will be on site at the Griffiss Institute on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The aircraft on display will include:
• A B-52 Stratofortress from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisana
• An HH-60W "Jolly Green II search and rescue helicopter from the 106th Rescue Wing based at Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base on Long Island
• An MQ-9 "Reaper" remotely piloted aircraft from the 174th Attack Wing based at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base.
• A CH-47F Chinook heavy lift helicopter from the New York Army National Guard's B Company, 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment based in Rochester.
• C-206, C-182, and C-172 civilian aircraft flown by the Civil Air Patrol, the Air Force's official civilian auxiliary organization.
Air Guard and Army Guard recruiters will be on hand, along with tactical vehicles, and other exhibits.
Brig. Gen. Paul Bishop
Brig Gen. Paul M. Bishop is dual-hatted as the Chief of Staff of the New York Air National Guard, while also serving as the Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander of the Continental North American Aerospace Defense Command Alert Region 1st Air Force (1AF), Air and Space Forces Northern.
As the Chief of Staff General, Brig Gen. Bishop serves as the primary advisor on all Air Guard matters to the Adjutant General.
He is responsible for establishing policy and monitoring operations of more than 5,800 Citizen Airmen assigned to five flying units and four geographically separated support units.
Prior to taking on this role, Bishop served as the commander of the Eastern Air Defense Sector, which is located at Griffiss Technology Park and is responsible for the air defense of the United States east of the Mississippi.
Bishop is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Basic Military Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas and Columbia College. His first assignment was at the 174th Fighter Wing in Syracuse, N.Y., where he served as an F-16 avionics intermediate service maintenance specialist from 1989 to 1993.
While with the 174th, he deployed in 1991 to Al Kharj Air Base, Saudi Arabia. In 1993, Bishop earned his commission through the Academy of Military Science at McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn., and subsequently joined the 113th Air Control Squadron in Syracuse.
He completed Weapons Director training at Tyndall AFB, Fla. in 1994. Later that year, the 113th was tasked with the NORAD mission at the Northeast Air Defense Sector in Rome and Bishop served as part of the initial cadre of personnel who transitioned the air defense mission from active duty to the Air National Guard.
From 1994 until 2023, Bishop served in a number of positions with the Eastern Air Defense Sector of steadily increasing responsibility and importance.
