Alabama Army National Guard Band looks to recruit new members with concert performances at schools
The 151st Alabama Army National Guard Band, located in Montgomery, Alabama, consists of "Citizen Soldiers" from across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana. The unit is taking the "show on the road" in an effort to recruit new members at a couple of high schools and one local college. The band members will meet with the students from the music departments and also perform a concert after the meetings.
The 151st will be in Tallassee, AL on Tuesday, April 5th with a performance at Southside Middle School, 901 Eb Payne Sr Drive at 9:00 a.m. and a 1:30 p.m. performance at the Tallassee High School, 502 Barnett Blvd, Tallassee, AL. On Wednesday, April 6th they will travel to Helena High School, 1310 Hillsboro Pkwy, Helena, AL and perform there at 11:20 a.m. after meeting with the music students all morning. These concerts are NOT open to the public and are only for the school, but we DO want to invite media representatives to come out to see and hear the band playing live and spending time giving back to high school students interested in a musical career and a career with the Alabama Army National Guard. The final location that the 151st Alabama Army National Guard Band will visit and perform at Thursday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m.is Huntingdon College, 1500 E. Fairview Ave, Montgomery, AL. The 151st Alabama Army National Guard Band meets two days a month for rehearsals and performances and fifteen days, usually in the summer, for annual training. Members in the unit have a varied professional background, including Elementary to High School Music Teachers and Band Directors, Medical Professionals, Law Enforcement Professionals, Fire Professionals, and Office Managers.
The musical groups of the 151st, consist of a Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Show Band, Woodwind Quintet, Brass Band, and other combinations required to accomplish the musical mission. The band performs throughout the United States for military and civilian functions. They have traveled to Costa Rica and Columbia, South America performing on United States Embassy Goodwill tours. The unit is commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Four Mark A. Mills.
