Alabama Army National Guard Welcomes Another General

MONTGOMERY, AL (12/30/2010)(readMedia)-- The Alabama Army National Guard will welcome a new general officer Saturday, January 8, 2011, with the promotion of Col. David R. Brown to the rank of brigadier general. The ceremony will take place in the United States Property and Fiscal Office building on the Alabama National Guard headquarters compound in Montgomery, Ala., at 3 p.m.

"This promotion is directly attributable to the soldiers, NCO's (noncommissioned officers) and officers that I have served with over the last 27 years. I am grateful to all of them," said Brown. "Most importantly, I owe a sincere debt of gratitude to my wife, Patti, and son, Logan, for their steadfast support of my National Guard duty."

Brown served as the Director of Host Nation Support (Installation Management) of the 226th Area Support Group in Mobile, Ala., battalion commander of the 145th Chemical Battalion in Centreville and in various assignments in units in Montgomery, Valley, Birmingham and Talladega. In 2008 and 2009, Brown was the Senior Guard Adviser to the Commandant at the Unites States Army War College, where he received a Masters of Strategic Studies in 2006.

Brown is currently the deputy commander of the 31st Chemical Brigade out of Northport, Ala.; he will become Assistant Adjutant General for the Alabama Guard.

As Assistant Adjutant General, Brown will advise and assist the Adjutant General on all Alabama Army National Guard programs, policies and operations.

Brown was born and raised in Ozark, Ala., and is a graduate of Carroll High School.
