MONTGOMERY, AL (05/08/2018) (readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard will welcome home the Soldiers of the 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), out of Birmingham, at a ceremony 12:30 p.m., May 9, at the Air National Guard Base, Army Aviation Support Facility #2 (Building 5401), at 5701 East Lake Blvd, in Birmingham.

More than 250 Alabama Army National Guard Soldiers deployed with the 135th ESC to the U.S. Central Command area of operations in June 2017, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom (Spartan Shield).

The 135th ESC provided theater-level oversight and planning of sustainment efforts for more than 10,000 personnel through air, sea and ground operations for 10 countries throughout the area of responsibility.

National Guard leadership will participate in the homecoming ceremony and family members will be on hand to welcome the unit home. The ceremony will be on a secure facility and not open to the general public; however, media are invited to attend and cover the event. Family and media arriving for the ceremony should plan for enough time to park and walk to the facility before the start time. Vehicles will be directed where to park once they have entered post. Seating will not be available, but attendees may bring their own chairs.

Due to the event being held in a secure facility, media wishing to attend must coordinate with the 117th Air Refueling Wing executive officer, Capt. Jonathan Russell, at 205-568-9615 no later than 9 a.m., the day of the ceremony.
