MONTGOMERY, Alabama – March 5, 2015 – The Alabama National Guard is currently conducting winter storm response operations.
Gov. Robert Bentley on Wednesday declared a State of Emergency for Alabama in preparation for winter weather. He activated the Alabama National Guard to respond to requests for assistance from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.
"Conducting a third winter storm response in three weeks is unique," said COL Jim Hawkins, Alabama National Guard director of military support. "However, it is well within our capabilities." He explained how the Alabama National Guard works closely with all interagency partners, including Alabama Emergency Management Agency, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Alabama Department of Transportation and others during a response. Hawkins added, "The seamless integration of these state agencies ensures the citizens of Alabama are fully supported."
