Alabama National Guard Continues to Ramp Up Response to Historic Tornadoes

MONTGOMERY (05/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard continues to increase its response to the April 27 tornadoes that ripped across central and north Alabama. The Alabama National Guard now has more than 2,500 Soldiers and Airmen on state active duty performing various missions across the state.

The Alabama National Guard is continuing to support tasks from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency with various types of support to include transportation, road clearing, security and aviation. The National Guard is also assisting in planning or running 13 points of distribution in Marion, Jackson, Cherokee, Marshall, St. Clair, Calhoun and Tuscaloosa Counties.

The Alabama National Guard continues to work hand-in-hand with the AEMA to ensure that we are providing the right personnel, equipment and resources to support each need. The Alabama Guard has extensive experience in disaster response and we will continue to use that experience and our unique training and skills to respond thoroughly, effectively and efficiently.
