Alabama National Guard Soldier Awarded Honorable Mention 2011 Army Times Soldier of the Year

Sgt. Brett Turnbough of the Alabama National Guard's 1204th Aviation Support Battalion, was named an Honorable Mention for the 2011 Army Times Soldier of the Year.

MONTGOMERY, AL (08/01/2011)(readMedia)-- Sgt. Brett Turnbough of the Alabama National Guard's 1204th Aviation Support Battalion, Bravo Company is featured in the July 25, 2011 edition of the Army Times. Turnbough was named an Honorable Mention for the 2011 Army Times Soldier of the Year.

Turnbough, a helicopter engine mechanic, joined the Guard in January 2007, and was recently nominated for his efforts by members of his unit command.

"Sgt. Turnbough can do anything when it comes to crunch time," said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Justin Trader, full time support supervisor for the 1204th. "He is a jack of all trades. He leads by example, and exemplifies what is right with the National Guard."

Turnbough, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning mechanic at Children's Hospital in Birmingham, is scheduled to deploy for the first time this month.

"It is truly an honor for me to be recognized among all of the hardworking Soldiers in the National Guard and Army," said Turnbough. "My greatest reward will be to use this as a tool to help mentor younger Soldiers."
