Alabama National Guard deploys Fort Deposit unit
MONTGOMERY (02/13/2012)(readMedia)-- The Alabama Army National Guard's 781st Transportation Company, out of Fort Deposit, has been called to active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The 781st will have a departure ceremony in Fort Deposit at the Fort Deposit Municipal Complex, located next to the company's armory at 200 Old Fort Road West, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2012.
The 781st Transportation Company will deploy nearly 120 Alabama National Guard Soldiers to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 781st will provide transportation support to units throughout the area of operations.
The 781st has previously supported combat operations for Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom as well as responded to numerous state domestic operations in times of need following natural disasters.
The 781st will continue to undergo extensive mobilization training at a mobilization training station before deploying.
State and local officials as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen will attend the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the 781st. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend to show their support for the Soldiers and their families.
The Alabama National Guard has called more than 17,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard.
