Alabama National Guard deploys chemical company

MONTGOMERY, AL (05/23/2017) (readMedia)-- The Alabama Army National Guard's 208th Chemical Company, out of Springville, has been called to active duty.The unit will have a departure ceremony in Trussville at the Crosspoint Church facility, 8000 Liles Lane, at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017.The approximately 90 Soldiers of the specialized chemical reconnaissance and decontamination company will perform the primary Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) operations mission for the U. S. Central Command area of responsibility.The 208th Chemical Company will conduct some additional training at a mobilization station before deploying overseas.Civilian officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, will attend the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the 208th
Chemical Company. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend to show their support for the Soldiers and their families.The Alabama National Guard has called more than 24,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard organizations.
