Release #2013070902

MONTGOMERY, AL (07/09/2013)(readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard is proud to announce the opening of a new Armed Forces Readiness Center on Pelham Range, in Alexandria, Ala. The new AFRC is the first building in Alabama to be awarded the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification.

"Greatly increased efficiencies in resource consumption, synergistically coupled with renewable solar energy, provide substantial real-world cost savings that last the life of the building and allow the use of much needed funds elsewhere," said Lt. Col. Christopher Murphy, design and construction management branch chief in the Alabama National Guard's Construction and Facilities Management Office. "Collectively, these features allow this building to operate at a fraction of the cost of a comparable facility while offering increased efficiency, form, and function."
