American Lung Association in Kentucky Turns Turquoise in Honor of National Women's Lung Health Week

American Lung Association's LUNG FORCE calls upon Kentuckians to share their voices to defeat the number one cancer killer of women – lung cancer

LOUISVILLE KY (05/08/2016)(readMedia)-- The American Lung Association in Kentucky is supporting LUNG FORCE during National Women's Lung Health Week (May 8 – 14) by turning local landmarks turquoise in an effort to raise awareness and defeat lung cancer in women.

LUNG FORCE is a fast-growing initiative uniting the nation against lung cancer, the #1 cancer killer of women.

In Louisville, the following will be illuminated in turquoise in honor of National Women's Lung Health Week: Evan Williams on Main, Louisville Science Center, Signarama, Engine #6 of the Louisville Fire Department, Louisville Water Company, LG&E Center, Center for Interfaith Relations, Belle of Louisville, Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts , and the Commission on Public Art.

Every eight minutes, a woman in the United States will lose her battle with lung cancer, yet awareness is shockingly low, only 1 percent of women say that lung cancer is a top-of-mind cancer concern. However, the number of women dying from lung cancer has nearly doubled over the past 30 years.

LUNG FORCE is focused on driving more positive outcomes for the women and families whose lives have been forever changed as a result of a lung cancer diagnosis.

To observe the 3rd year of LUNG FORCE the Bristol on Main will host a celebration on May 10 from 5 to 6:30 pm with appetizers, cash bar and a signature drink, the "turquoise charm." Proceeds from the drink will be donated to the American Lung Association.

Special guests Cathy Zion, owner of Today's Woman magazine and Steve Tong will share their story of overcoming lung cancer and how her publication made a difference in his life.

A representative from Congressman John Yarmuth's office will be present to speak, as well as Barry Gottschalk, President & CEO of the American Lung Association of the Midland States, which includes Kentucky.
