American Lung Association's Turquoise Takeover in Louisville National Women's Lung Health Week May 8 –14

LOUISVILLE KY (04/25/2016)(readMedia)-- WHAT: The American Lung Association joins with community leaders and sponsors to announce the 3rd Turquoise Takeover, for LUNG FORCE, the campaign to make the fight against lung cancer a national priority.
Downtown Louisville will be a sea of turquoise with illuminations and participation from the following venues and landmarks: Signarama, Evan Williams, The Louisville Water Company, the LG&E Center, the Center for Interfaith Relations, The Bristol Bar & Grille, The Belle of Louisville, The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, The Commission on Public Art, and the Louisville Fire Department's Engine #6.
To observe the 3rd year of LUNG FORCE the Bristol on Main will host a celebration with appetizers, cash bar and a signature drink, the "turquoise charm." Proceeds from the drink will be donated to the American Lung Association.

Special guests Cathy Zion, owner of Today's Woman magazine and Steve Tong will share their story of overcoming lung cancer and how her publication made a difference in his life.
A representative from Congressman John Yarmuth's office will be present to speak, as well as Barry Gottschalk, President & CEO of the American Lung Association of the Midland States, which includes Kentucky.

• In 1987 lung cancer surpassed breast cancer as the leading cancer killer among women in the U.S.
• Funding for lung cancer research lags behind other major causes of death in the U.S.
• More than 2/3 of people diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or are former smokers
• Kentucky leads the nation in lung cancer (the #1 cancer killer nationwide).
