ALBANY, NY (03/02/2026) (readMedia)-- Tomorrow, lawmakers and advocates will hold a virtual press conference to release a detailed memo debunking NYSERDA's paltry 3 page memo misrepresenting the New York climate law. The memo alleged - with little evidence - that adhering to the state's emissions mandates will cost consumers and recommended that the state make changes to the Climate Law. This is not true.
The NYSERDA memo is the latest example of Governor Hochul baselessly blaming climate regulations for higher utility costs and creating a manufactured crisis. In recent months, the Governor has made a hard pivot to embrace fossil fuels in the name of "affordability", while ignoring that the real driver of utility increases is the skyrocketing cost of gas and gas pipes: which her own Deputy Secretary for Energy acknowledges in a recent op-ed.
Now, lawmakers and advocates are demanding that she uphold the state's landmark climate law and work with lawmakers to actually address New Yorkers' affordability concerns.
