Award-Winning Medical Author Harriet Washington Speaks at Nazareth College

ROCHESTER, NY (01/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Nazareth College is pleased to announce that Harriet A. Washington will be lecturing as part of the College's Fourth Annual Health and Human Services Summit. Washington's presentation will explore the legal, social, and ethical aspects of the role the pharmaceutical industry, as well as other powerful parties, play in the medical world. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session and will take place on Thursday, January 26 at 5:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public and will be held in the Shults Center Forum on Nazareth's campus, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14618.

Washington is an award-winning medical writer and editor. Her most recent work is a book titled, Deadly Monopolies, The Shocking Corporate Takeover of Life Itself-and the Consequences for Your Health and Our Medical Future (Doubleday, 2011). Washington's notable writing experience extends to working as a journalist for publications such as USA Today and a writer for academic forums such as the Harvard Public Health Review and The New England Journal of Medicine. Some of her previous positions include serving as a fellow in ethics at the Harvard Medical School, a Knight Fellow at Stanford University, a fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, and a senior research scholar at the National Center for Bioethics at Tuskegee University. A recipient of several prestigious awards, Nazareth College is honored to have Washington lecture as part of the fourth Annual Health and Human Services Summit.

Hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the event is co-sponsored by Nazareth College Honors Program, Nursing Department, Student Health Services, School of Health and Human Services, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
