MARSEILLES, IL (01/28/2013)(readMedia)-- Mark Byrd of Bellwood, with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 108th Sustainment Brigade in Chicago, was promoted to the rank of sergeant first class Jan. 25 at Marseilles Training Center in Marseilles.

Byrd enlisted into the active Army September 1990 and later joined the Illinois Army National Guard in 1993. He deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Storm February 1991 and again in June 1991 for Operation Desert Farewell. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq from October 2003 to January 2005.
