ALBANY, NY (08/16/2010)(readMedia)-- Bethex Federal Credit Union has been honored with a Louise Herring Award for philosophy in action. The competition, sponsored by the Credit Union Association of New York, honors credit unions for their practical application of the "people helping people" philosophy that is the hallmark of the credit union movement. Bethex won the second place award in the under $50 million in assets category.
The credit union was cited for its free VITA site tax preparation services and financial education regarding taxation and eligibility for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit.
The award program was named after Louise McCarren Herring, a credit union pioneer, who believed that the operational application of the credit union philosophy helped better people's lives.
