Bicyclist Killed in Collision with DC National Guard Vehicle

Guard Vehicle Was Assigned to Motorcade Route Security Route for Nuclear Security Summit

WASHINGTON, DC (04/13/2010)(readMedia)-- On Monday, April 12, 2010, at approximately 6:05pm, a bicyclist and a D.C. National Guard Light Medium Tactical Vehicle collided at the intersection of 12th Street and New York Avenue, NW. The cyclist died of her injuries. The vehicle was assigned to the motorcade security route for the Nuclear Security Summit.

"The DC Guard regularly supports Metro Police when major activities are planned in the downtown area," said Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, commanding general of the D.C. National Guard. "We are all saddened by the accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Holden's family, friends and coworkers."

The Metropolitan Police Department and the District of Columbia National Guard are investigating the cause of the accident.
