Bill Forbes named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2011)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Bill Forbes of Correctionville as an Iowan of the Day for the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Forbes has been a member and officer of the Correctionville Fire and Rescue department since 1981. It has been estimated that he has participated on over 1,000 ambulance and fire calls. Youth have always been important to Forbes and he is committed to making academic improvements for the school system. Forbes has served on the River Valley Booster Club and the River Valley School Betterment Committee. He has also been a Little League coach. Forbes has served on multiple committees at his church where he has been a member for over 30 years. He takes pride in his community and has volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce to improve Correctionville. Currently, Forbes is spearheading the effort to build a new grocery store in his community.
"Bill is a well respected, quiet man of integrity – willing to do the smallest of tasks as well as the largest to keep our small city a desirable place to live and work," said Charlene Warren, community member and Forbes' nominator. His knowledge, leadership and care for Iowa make him a well deserving Iowan of the Day.
Forbes' day of recognition will be Friday, August 19 at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Forbes will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Forbes will also receive a special introduction at 2:15 p.m. August 19 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
