NEW YORK, NY (10/23/2009)(readMedia)-- Kermitt Brooks, New York's First Deputy Insurance Superintendent, will speak to members of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York (NGLCCNY) on "Insurance for Business Owners 101" at an October 27 meeting of the organization.
The meeting, presented by the Financial Services Industry Council of the NGLCCNY, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on October 27 at the Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of the Harvey Milk High School at 2 Astor Place in the East Village.
"The right insurance can mean the difference between life and death for a small business," Brooks said. "Gay and lesbian business owners also have special concerns that other small business owners never need to consider. Helping to educate consumers is central to the Insurance Department's mission, and I hope to provide some clear answers to those who attend this event."
Topics to be covered include property and casualty, health, and life insurance, and how they affect owners, employees and customers, including how they protect business owners from liability. Brooks will also discuss recent developments in insurance regulation, including the treatment of out-of-state same-sex marriages under New York Insurance Law.
