CDTA's Basile Elected President of the New York Public Transit Association

ALBANY, NY (11/17/2010)(readMedia)-- Carm Basile, Executive Director, Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) was elected President of the New York Public Transit Association, Inc. (NYPTA) at the organization's New York State transit industry conference held November 17-19 in Albany.

"I'm honored to serve as president during this pivotal time for the transit industry. As the public continues to rely on us for transportation to work, class, medical appointments and grocery stores, we are challenged at every turn by shrinking funding sources. Investing in our transit systems has never been more important to both the public we serve and in helping our economy recover." Basile said.

As President, Basile will be responsible for overseeing the business of the association and will serve as one of the primary spokespeople for the public transportation industry in New York State. Basile has been employed at CDTA for over 28 years and has held a number of senior positions including Deputy Executive Director for Business Development, Director of Business Development, Chief of Staff, Director of Marketing and Transportation Planner. He also serves on a number of boards and civic organizations. As a long-standing and active member in NYPTA, he has served on its board of directors, communications and marketing committee, and legislative committee.

Under his leadership, the association will benefit from his insight and ideas for helping provide quality, properly funded transit to all of New York State," said immediate Past President Frank Kobliski, Executive Director, Central New York Regional Transportation Association.

NYPTA is a not-for-profit association representing more than 40 transit systems across New York State including the MTA, one of the largest public transportation systems in the nation, the four upstate authorities, and the transportation systems that serve rural upstate New York communities. In addition, NYPTA is comprised of more than 90 private sector manufacturers, consultants and state government agencies. Members provide nearly all of the public transportation services in New York State, nearly 40 percent of the public transportation services in the nation, and employ more than 60,000 New Yorkers.
