CONGRESSWOMAN SLAUGHTER MEETS WITH NAZARETH STUDENTS HEADED TO INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, MARCH 29

Nazareth College students head to University of California, Berkeley April 1-3 for Clinton Global Initiative University

ROCHESTER, NY (03/28/2016)(readMedia)-- A group of Nazareth College students are preparing to be world change agents, and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) is visiting Nazareth College campus to help them get there. Congresswoman Slaughter will meet with Nazareth College President Daan Braveman and a group of seven students to give her support and advice as they prepare to for the 2016 Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) meeting at the University of California, Berkeley. CGI U 2016 accepted five "commitments to action" and the group of seven Nazareth students head to the CGI U meeting April 1-3. CGI U officials says that 2016 is one of the most competitive pools of projects from students around the world. The international conference will assemble more than 1,000 innovative student leaders who have made commitments to action in CGI U's five focus areas: Education, Environment and Climate Change, Peace and Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health.

The Nazareth students commitments to action include: a mental health education and stigma reduction program, a peace and human rights curriculum designed to bring Rochester youth from refugee backgrounds together, a Readbox program providing young Latino English language learners free books and mentor pen pals, a yoga empowerment program to reduce stress and depression among college students, and a Mammalian Median Mowers program to allow underutilized medians to become pastures for small grazing animals.
