ALBANY, NY (11/01/2012)(readMedia)-- The Credit Union Association of New York's board of directors recently voted to endorse first-term Congressman Rep. Richard Hanna (R-Utica-Rome) in New York's 24th congressional district. Hanna has developed strong relationships with the Association and numerous credit unions.

"I am honored to be endorsed by the Credit Union Association of New York, whose members play a vital role in communities throughout Central New York and the Southern Tier," Rep. Hanna said. "I look forward to continuing to support policies in Congress that allow upstate credit unions to assist our neighbors everyday with their financial needs."

Congressional District 24 encompasses Chenango, Cortland, Madison and Oneida counties and parts of Broome, Herkimer and Oswego counties.

During his first term, Hanna co-sponsored priority legislation for credit union member business lending, supplemental capital, financial institution examination fairness and ATM fee disclosure reform.

"Richard Hanna is deserving of the Association's endorsement, as he has become a solid credit union supporter. In fact, he is the only New York Congressman who has supported every recent piece of legislation that would be beneficial to credit unions," said Mike Parsons, president/CEO of First Source FCU. "He has always made himself available to us; he has been accessible and genuinely wants to understand the issues we are faced with."

"The Association is as committed as ever to endorsing and electing pro-credit union candidates and Rep. Hanna is one such candidate," said William J. Mellin, president/CEO of the Credit Union Association of New York.

Earlier this fall, the Association announced its endorsement of Congressional candidates Chris Collins, Hakeem Jeffries, Dan Maffei and Grace Meng. All endorsements are based on meetings with candidates, feedback from credit unions in the candidates' districts and, if applicable, the candidates' legislative records.

The Credit Union Association of New York has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 95 years. New York credit unions have assets of more than $57 billion and serve 4.6 million members. To learn more about the Association, visit www.cuany.org.
