ALBANY, NY (04/09/2012)(readMedia)-- The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) invites upstate New York artists to apply for the 2012 Sculpture in the Streets program. Now through May 1, 2012, the BID is accepting submissions from artists interested in teaming up with local sponsors to design and paint Dutch clogs. Six large scale clogs at seven feet long and four smaller pairs of Dutch clogs at three feet long will be on display outdoors at public locations throughout downtown Albany's business and entertainment corridors from mid-June 2012 through May 2013. An estimated 30,000 Downtown workers and visitors will view the exhibit. Inquiries to sponsor Dutch clogs are also being accepted. "Downtown Albany hosted the late American Kinetic Sculptor George Rickey last year and the response from the community was exciting," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director Downtown Albany BID, "This year's exhibit will feature regional artists while maintaining a connection to our international heritage."
Sculpture in the Streets has been an annual event since2006, encouraging art education while highlighting the vibrancy of downtown Albany. It is the only annual public art exhibit of its kind in the Capital District.
