ST. PAUL, MN (05/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Hayden Vavra, of Cambridge, Minn., was named Concordia University St. Paul's 2010-11 Male Athlete of the Year, the university's highest annual athletic honor.
Vavra, a tight end on Concordia's football team, was a two-year captain that helped lead the team to a five-win turnaround on the gridiron in 2010. His dedication and leadership to his team and teammates resulted in an invitation to play in the football program's third ever post-season game-the Mineral Water Bowl.
As a senior, Vavra earned All-NSIC South Division First Team honors, an award he also received as a junior; All-Region Second Team honors; and was one of 12 football student-athletes in NCAA Division II selected to the National Football Foundation's All-Scholar Class.
