ALBANY, NY (06/10/2008)(readMedia)-- Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, Inc. 2008 Graduates honored at Dinner
On Wednesday June 11th at 6:00 p.m. the Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, Inc. 2008 graduates from Albany, Schenectady and Troy High School will be honored at the Desmond Hotel. This is the eighth graduation dinner that recognizes students who will be graduating from high school as well as college. All graduating high school students will be attending college.
Keeping in mind the mission of the program: CRSAS was started to assist economically disadvantaged young men and women in Troy, Albany, and Schenectady to graduate high school and attend college. Several students will receive scholarships from The Rotary Foundation, Albany Dental Society and many others. College graduates range from RIT, St John’s University, University of Buffalo and many more.
Charles Buchanan, founder and Chairman of the Board states, “It’s not easy being away from home for the first time. Homework assignments will be more difficult, encouragement will come from within. CRSAS will be there to help along with your mentors and academic coordinators.” In a letter from Senator Joseph Bruno, he congratulates the students on their hard work and dedication. He sites this as a milestone not only a measure of academic excellence, but other important qualities such as discipline, determination, and ambition. The mayors of each city have written similar letters which they will receive during the ceremony.
Mary Barnet, wife of the late William Barnet co-founder will give each student a dictionary to be used at college. “This is a great evening filled with pride from the students, their families, mentors and sponsors. Education puts the students in a very elite, group, globally. From here they will embark on a very exciting journey charged with responsibility.” said President, William Corbett.
