DES MOINES, IA (07/29/2015)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Caroline Lehman of New London as an Iowan of the Day for the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

Lehman is best known for her work with the Dover Museum located in New London. In her role as curator, she works to create engaging exhibits that show people the value of history. Though she often creates and organizes exhibits, she also goes above and beyond. She was able to bring a traveling exhibit about Iowa's involvement in the Civil War to New London by collaborating with the State Historical Society of Iowa. With her help, a railroad depot was moved across Iowa and put in place to house Dover Museum's railroad collections.

Lehman gives to her community in big and small ways. She was a part of the 175th anniversary celebration of New London's founding. This event honored local veterans and brought together a community.

"She prepares food for shut-ins, friends, neighbors as well as delivering Meals on Wheels," said Virginia Ekstrand, one of Lehman's nominators, "She also helps people by getting them to their doctor appointments".

In addition to these activities, Lehman volunteers with her church, works with the local wellness center and acts as secretary to the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission. She is also a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Lehman's day of recognition will be Monday, August 17 at the 2015 Iowa State Fair. She will be recognized with a ceremony on the Anne and Bill Riley stage at 2:30 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, Grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowan's across the state who have made a difference in others' lives, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated more than $110 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
