LATHAM, NY (04/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Division of Military and Naval Affairs employee Cheril Ristau has been awarded the agency's Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her service as the agency responded to Hurricane Sandy.

Ristau, who works in the DMNA state personnel office , played a key role in processing $9 million that was paid to more than 4,500 members of the New York National Guard who served during the state response to the storm in November. Her work was exemplary and ensured that these Soldiers and Airmen were paid in a timely manner, her citation says.

While serving at the direction of the governor, members of the Army and Air National Guard are paid by the state instead of the federal government.

Ristau lives in Averill Park with her husband Mark and son, also named Mark.
