Cohoes Founders' Day and NYS Heritage Weekend

The Kickoff to a Weeklong Celebration That Culminates with the Inaugural 15k and 5k Running Races

COHOES, NY (05/11/2012)(readMedia)-- The media are invited to cover this press conference to help kickoff a weeklong celebration and share their firsthand coverage with their readers and viewers.

WHO:

Elected officials from the New York State Assembly, City of Cohoes, Leaders from the National Park Service, NYS Parks and Recreation, community and business leaders are coming together for this event.

WHAT:

A press conference to kickoff the Founder’s Day celebration. The event will feature brief speeches from elected officials and leaders, directors of the races including the trophies that are up for grabs to the fastest runner, event re-enactors (who are actually descendants of prominent industrial and social families in Cohoes) and much, much, more. The media can also be directed to see artwork made by Cohoes schoolchildren displayed in the storefronts of downtown businesses.

About Cohoes’ Founders’ Day

The city of Cohoes will celebrate their two day Heritage Festival event to celebrate its 143rd anniversary of its founding – May 19, 1869. The Races are the culmination of events that carry on a tradition of lifelong friendships and support, in a fun, safe and community-minded atmosphere to achieve goals in supporting the young and old of Cohoes.

About the Race

The Founders Day 15K Race is in partnership with local businesses, schools, organizations and the City of Cohoes. This race will proudly give attention to the best of Cohoes to underline the history, recreation, culture and community atmosphere. Cohoes Founders’ Day is sponsored by NH Kelman Scrap Recycling Company, and proceeds will go to Cohoes Multi-Service Senior Citizen Center. The Mastodon 5K proceeds will benefit the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program in Cohoes.
