Columbia Native enlists in Illinois Army National Guard

SPRINGFIELD, IL (03/06/2018) (readMedia)-- Springfield, Ill. – Pvt. Dennis Vasquez, of Columbia, Illinois, was sworn into the Illinois Army National Guard Jan. 18, at the St. Louis Military Entrance Processing Station.

Vazquez enlisted as an 11B, Infantryman, and is assigned Company M, Recruit Sustainment Program in Shiloh, Illinois.

Upon completion of his initial training, Vazquez will be assigned to Company C., 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment, in Litchfield, Illinois.

Vasquez is a senior at Columbia High School, Columbia, Illinois.

After successfully completing his training, Vasquez will be eligible for the Illinois National Guard Grant, which pays 100 percent of college tuition while he works as a full-time student and a part-time Soldier. He will also be eligible for the Select Reserve G.I. Bill and federal tuition assistance.

Sgt. 1st Class William Ingles of Company M, congratulated Vasquez and welcomed him into the Illinois Army National Guard.
