NEW YORK, NY (09/08/2017) (readMedia)-- Common Cause/NY asked all ten candidates running for Brooklyn Countywide Civil Court Judge in Tuesday's primary to answer a judicial candidate questionnaire. Only three responded.
Their responses can be found here: http://www.commoncause.org/states/new-york/research-and-reports/brooklyn-civil-court-judicial.html
"Although only 3 candidates actually responded, Common Cause/NY is committed to continuing to help voters gain the information they need to be well informed. It is a privilege to serve on the court and we hope that all candidates would understand the importance of providing relevant information to voters," said Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY.
The Civil Courts of the City of New York decide lawsuits involving claims of up to $25,000. The Civil Court includes a small claims part for the informal resolution of cases involving amounts of up to $5,000, and a housing part for landlord-tenant and housing violation proceedings. The court also handles other civil matters referred by the Supreme Court, which can include family court. Civil Court Judges are elected to ten year terms.
