Common Cause/NY Releases Voter Guide for Brooklyn Civil Court Judge

Only 3 candidates out of 10 responded to questionnaire

NEW YORK, NY (09/08/2017) (readMedia)-- Common Cause/NY asked all ten candidates running for Brooklyn Countywide Civil Court Judge in Tuesday's primary to answer a judicial candidate questionnaire. Only three responded.

Background

The Civil Courts of the City of New York decide lawsuits involving claims of up to $25,000. The Civil Court includes a small claims part for the informal resolution of cases involving amounts of up to $5,000, and a housing part for landlord-tenant and housing violation proceedings. The court also handles other civil matters referred by the Supreme Court, which can include family court. Civil Court Judges are elected to ten year terms.
