Concordia University St. Paul's Dr. Jeff Burkart has received the 2012 Lutheran Education Association's (LEA) Christus Magister award. Meaning "Teacher of Christ," the award is a top honor for Lutheran educators who have made significant contributions to Lutheran education.
Burkart, the 54th LEA member to receive the award since its beginning in 1965, was selected by the LEA Board of Directors.
LCMS Minnesota South District president Lane Seitz said in support of Dr. Burkart, "Frankly, I do not know of anyone who has worked more tirelessly as a Lutheran educator than he has."
Concordia University St. Paul, President Tom Ries said, "Dr. Burkart can be best described as a man who received an abundance of talents from the Master and spent a lifetime faithfully stewarding them in His service."
Prior to Concordia University St. Paul, Burkart served at Martin Luther King High School in Greendale, Wisconsin, St. John's Lutheran School and Church in Seward, Nebraska, and also at Concordia University, Nebraska. Burkart has been a Concordia, St. Paul faculty member since 1977. Currently, he holds positions as Professor of Educational Media/Communications as well as Director of Drama Ministry. He stays busy with a combination of teaching, consulting, leading, and speaking.
