LATHAM, NY (03/24/2008)(readMedia)-- Covera Card Solutions is pleased to present credit unions the opportunity to offer United Way’s Pennies for Change™ program to their members. Through this program, members of participating credit unions can opt to donate one penny every time they use their credit or debit card to make a purchase. The “pennies” are then donated to United Way to support programs in their credit union’s respective communities.
United Way’s Pennies for Change initiative involves no participation or sign-up fees for the partnering credit union or credit union member. The program is easy to implement for participating credit unions because no individual donor information of any kind is required by United Way.
“We’re excited to support United Way by making this turn-key program available,” said Kimberly McCumber-Ploof, executive in charge of Covera Card Solutions. “Not only is Pennies for Change an easy way for credit union members to give back to their local communities, it’s also synonymous with credit union’s ‘people helping people’ philosophy.
All partnering financial institutions will receive marketing templates from United Way to promote the program to their members. They will also be listed on United Way’s website as a participant.
Covera first found out about Pennies for Change from a credit union that wanted to participate in the program and needed a credit card processing partner to do so. In December 2007, with Covera’s help, the credit union became the first financial institution nationally to implement Pennies for Change. Offering Pennies for Change to all partner credit unions became a natural next step for the organization.
