ALBANY, NY (02/03/2009)(readMedia)-- The Credit Union Association of New York has been named one of the "Best Companies to Work for in New York" by the New York State Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in partnership with the Best Companies Group. The award program was designed to recognize and honor top employers in New York that benefit the state's economy, workforce and businesses.

"This is a wonderful honor for the Association and its group of employees who are our strength," said William J. Mellin, president/CEO of the Association. "We work hard to foster a friendly, nurturing environment that encourages them to be the best they can be. I can think of no better honor to recognize their dedication and unrivaled service excellence to our membership than to be honored as a Best Place to Work in New York."

For profit, not-for-profit and government entities, as well as publicly and privately held businesses with a minimum of 15 employees and a facility in the state were eligible to enter the two-part process used to determine the Best Places to Work in New York. Part one (25%) evaluates each nominated company's workplace polices, practices, philosophy and demographics. Part two (75%) consists of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determine the top companies and their final ranking.

Final rankings will be announced at an awards dinner for the 2009 award recipients on Thursday, April 23 at the Albany Marriott.

New York SHRM consists of local chapters throughout the state, with a membership of human resources and business professionals across all industries. In addition to the partnership, the Best Companies to Work For in New York initiative is supported by: The Business Council of New York State, Right Management and Jackson Lewis, LLP.

The Credit Union Association of New York has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 91 years. It is the fifth largest league in the country. New York credit unions have assets of more than $43 billion and 4.2 million members. To learn more about the Association, visit www.cuany.org.
