D.C. Army National Guard Unit Arriving Home from Afghanistan
273rd Military Police Company to reunite with families after ten months in Afghanistan
WASHINGTON, DC (10/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Approximately 70 soldiers of the D.C. Army National Guard's 273rd Military Police Battalion will be returning home from a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan Sunday, Oct. 14, at the D.C. National Guard Armory.
They will be met by their families, friends and fellow National Guardsmen.
The 273rd Military Police Company is arriving in small groups. The main group of approximately 25 personnel is slated to arrive at 3:15pm. For information on other arrivals, please contact 1st Lt. Miranda Summers Lowe at (301)693-3941.

WHAT: | Approximately 70 soldiers of the D.C. Army National Guard's 273rd Military Police Battalion will be returning home from a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan Sunday, Oct. 14, at the D.C. National Guard Armory. They will be met by their families, friends and fellow National Guardsmen. The 273rd provided military police assets while operating out of Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. In addition, they managed a dining facility, managed mail operations for the base, conducted logistics and personnel convoys, and provided physical security details to American personnel.
Many of the service members have deployed at least once previously. The soldiers endured a separation from friends and family. During the time away, two of the soldiers missed the birth of new babies. The 273rd has previously mobilized in 2002, where they provided security forces at the Pentagon and 2003, conducting detainee operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. |
