WASHINGTON, DC (12/04/2014)(readMedia)-- The District of Columbia National Guard will honor the accomplishments and achievements of their Air and Army Guardsmen during an annual Awards & Decorations Ceremony at the D.C. National Guard Armory Sunday, Dec. 7, at 9 a.m.

The free event, open to the public and media, will feature the entirety of the D.C. National Guard standing in ranks and columns, in full formation, on the armory's drill floor for a "pass and review" presentation to Commanding General Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz. "Pass and review," a military tradition, was last performed by the D.C. National Guard a quarter century ago.

During the ceremony, D.C. Army Guard Sgt. Timothy Brown will be presented the Hero Recognition Award in recognition of his actions Oct. 7 at the Mary Washington Hospital Trauma Center in Virginia. During an incident at the hospital, Brown, a full-time respiratory therapist at the hospital, intervened and assisted a Stafford County sheriff's deputy subdue an individual who had attempted to grab the officer's gun. Brown, a member of the D.C. Army Guard's 275th Military Police Company, helped defuse a potentially lethal situation using military police skills.

The D.C. National Guard, made up of about 2,500 members, serves their local community and America. They are a ready, trained and equipped military organization. The D.C. National Guard is the first military responder in the nation's capital to support and defend the District of Columbia, its citizens and the nation.
