D.C. National Guard supports local authorities during Independence Day Celebration
WASHINGTON, DC (07/04/2016)(readMedia)-- The District of Columbia National Guard will support local authorities during the July 4 celebration, activities in and around the National Mall area. Soldiers and Airmen from the D.C. National Guard will augment the D.C. Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency as well as the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, the District Department of Transportation, The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services in their efforts to facilitate a safety and security for people attending activities in and around the National Mall area. D.C. National Guard Soldiers and Airmen will be augmenting local authorities by participating in crowd management, traffic management, chemical/biological/radiological/nuclear
explosive detection and response and security perimeter missions. Additionally, the D.C. National Guard's, 257th Army Band marched in National Independence Day Parade. People attending downtown events are encouraged to plan accordingly and adhere to posted and broadcasted guidance or instructions.
