WASHINGTON, DC (03/30/2011)(readMedia)-- D.C. Army National Guard Col. Arthur R. Hinaman will be promoted to the rank of brigadier general during a ceremony at the District of Columbia National Guard Armory at 2 p.m. Friday, April 1. The event is open to the media.

Hinaman, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, is the DC Guard's Land Component Commander. He became the commander in October 2009. He currently resides in Leonardtown, Md.

He is responsible for the overall readiness, training, maintenance, and operational employment of the units assigned and attached to the District of Columbia Army National Guard.

Hinaman was commissioned in 1982 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the Pennsylvania State University. His DC Guard assignments include commander, 74th Troop Command; Chief of Staff, Army; Deputy Director of the Joint Staff; and State Army Aviation Officer. While deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Hinaman served as the commander of the Air Corps Advisory Group in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Hinaman has more than 2,000 hours of flight time as an Army aviator. He has flown the UH-1 "Huey" helicopter and AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter and C-12 and C-26 fixed-wing aircraft.
