LOS LUNAS, NM (04/22/2011)(readMedia)-- David Chavez was recognized recently by the UNM-Valencia Advisory Board for his extensive service as a former member of that board.

Chavez did not run for re-election to the board after being elected to the New Mexico State House of Representatives last fall. He represents District 7 at the State Roundhouse, and has just completed his first legislative session. His term as an advisory board member ended in February 2011.

Members of the UNMVC Advisory Board thanked him for his many years of service at the conclusion of their March 31st regular board meeting. He was presented with a plaque and a montage of photographs of his participation in board-related activities at the campus.

Chavez started his tenure on the UNMVC Advisory Board in March 1999, and his tenure ended February 2011. He was the chairman of the board from 2001 to 2003. He represented Position 3, Los Lunas on the Advisory Board.

Besides his activity on the board, Chavez and his family have been long-time supporters of the campus. Chavez and his family recently established scholarships honoring their parents, the late Tibo and Betty Caperton Chavez.

"I would like to thank David for his many years of service to UNM-Valencia, our students and our staff," said Paul Luna, chair of the UNMVC Advisory Board. "I could always count on David to focus on our student and campus needs."

Luna said that Chavez was "always committed to excellence and respect, and he always made sure we didn't leave a stone unturned while looking for financial assistance for all the needs of our campus. We will miss David on our Advisory Board, and wish him well as he now serves our entire state in the House of Representatives."
